Medicash appoints new Chairman
The Birkenhead MP Frank Field has been appointed
Chairman of the board of the Liverpool mutual
Medicash.
Mr Field takes over the role from Bill Tubey who has served on
the board since 2003 and will continue to act as a non-executive
director.
Chief Executive Sue Weir said: "Frank is a nationally renowned
MP with a reputation for spearheading reform and debate in a wide
number of areas. I know he will be a tremendous asset to Medicash
as we progress and the entire board is delighted he has accepted
the role."
Frank Field said: "I have great admiration for Medicash. Over
the last 140 years the organisation has consistently supported the
health and wellbeing of the local community and undertaken a
significant amount of charitable giving. Whilst maintaining that
commitment, Medicash has alongside this achieved considerable
commercial success. I am pleased to accept the role of Chairman and
looking forward to playing a part in its further development. "
Mr Field's career in politics spans more than 40 years. He has
been the Member of Parliament for Birkenhead since 1979. Between
1997 and 1998, he served as Minister of Welfare Reform, and in
December 2010 his Independent Review on Poverty was submitted
to the current Prime Minister.
In its premises on Lord Street, Liverpool, Medicash employs over
70 staff and recently published accounts which showed a turnover in
excess of £20m. Take up of corporate plans reached an all time peak
in 2010 - up 20% on its best ever year. Clients include the Big
Lottery, DWF, Liverpool Arena and Convention Centre, Littlewoods
and Jaguar Land Rover.
Frank Field has worked with Medicash for 8 years having first
been appointed as a non-executive director in 2003. His
remuneration for the new post, as with his last, will be given
directly to local charities in Birkenhead.
Medicash is a shortlisted entrant in the Daily Post Regional
Business Awards CSR category.
