Medicash runners on their marks for marathon
Staff at cash plan provider Medicash enlisted the
support of St Helens RLFC (Saints) to give a final boost
in their training as they prepare for next
months Liverpool Marathon.
A total of six employees will be running the 26.2 mile race
which takes place on Sunday 9th October. Between them they aim to
raise over £3,000 for the Community Foundation for Merseyside.
Saints RLFC gave the Medicash runners' intensive training regime
a final push as the teams fitness trainer and
players joined forces to deliver a special intensive booster
session.
Marketing Manager Andy Abernethy said: "The team have all been
training really hard in preparation for the race but the Saints
players took it to a whole new level. It's fair to say that at the
end of it they were pretty exhausted but top tips from the
pros have certainly put them in good stead to achieve their
marathon goals.
Training for a marathon is grueling on both the mind and
body as we have seen four of our potential runners have to
pull out of the race due to injuries picked up during their
training."
The Community Foundation distributes grants to voluntary groups
and charities across the region to help tackle issues around
deprivation and social problems.
You can sponsor the whole team at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Medicash
or via their individual sponsorship pages.
Around 10,000 runners are expected to take to the streets next
month on, what would have been John Lennon's birthday, for the
city's first marathon since 1992.
