Medicash Midnight Walk for Jospice raises over £40,000
Date: 15/12/2006
Women across Merseyside are being invited to take part in a 're-run' of a hugely successful midnight walk.
It has been announced that the inaugural midnight walk in aid of St Joseph’s hospice in north Merseyside raised more than £40,000 for the charity. And planning has now started for a follow-up event in June next year.
The first Medicash Midnight walk for Jospice saw more than 600 women from across the North West take part in the 10km walk from Aintree along the A59 towards Maghull and back.

The event had backing from celebrities including Gerry Marsden, Debi Jones, Kenny and Marina Dalglish and Cherie Booth, and organisers were delighted by the number of women who took part.
Jospice Director of Fundraising Pat Murphy said: "The support that we received for our first Midnight Walk was truly remarkable.
"We had estimated that around 500 women would take part, but to have over 600 was absolutely fantastic. The money which this has generated will go directly towards the provision of palliative care for terminally ill people and their families at St Joseph’s Hospice."
The walk was sponsored by leading health insurer Medicash as part of the company’s ongoing support of charitable causes and as part of its 135th anniversary celebrations.
Medicash Chief Executive Bill Gaywood said: "Medicash was founded 135 years ago to help the people of Liverpool meet their healthcare costs. Since then we have played a role in the support of charitable causes all over the UK.
"This is why we were extremely pleased to be able to get involved with this unique event and we are very happy that it has been such a great success, raising over £40,000 for this deserving cause."
The next Midnight Walk is on June 15th 2007. For further details telephone 0151 932 6025.
