Letter from Sue Weir, Chief Executive, Medicash

Our Charitable Donations

Everyone at Medicash would like to thank key workers for the incredible work that they are carrying out.

So far in 2020, the Medicash Foundation has donated £550,100 including £110, 000 of vital PPE consisting of face visors and masks for the NHS, North West Ambulance Service and local care homes and £335,000 to help charities including those suffering from lost income due to the lockdown and those launching specialist initiatives to help their communities during the pandemic.

Our app

Medicash’s app has always provided a quick and easy platform for submitting claims and providing access to wellbeing support. This health and wellbeing content includes breathing exercises, guided meditations and advice on improving mental wellbeing.

As a direct response to the pandemic, Medicash accelerated the launch of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workouts for all levels of ability, for our policyholders. With the increase in home working, and inevitably a more sedentary lifestyle, there has never been a more important time to look after health and improve fitness levels. This additional content is being provided to at no extra cost to either employers or individuals.

Our Corporate Customers

Medicash introduced a range of measures to help its corporate customers during the current crisis. These include offering payment holidays to businesses.  Plus, any reduction in claims made will be factored in at renewal when a longer-term picture will be available. Medicash will assess all renewals, or enquiries, on a case by case basis.  Medicash will always be fair with our customers.

We would encourage any organisation that has a health cash plan with access to benefits such as a Virtual GP or mental health support, to keep this in place for their employees. This will help employees to be in the best physical and mental state for continuing to cope.  Policyholders can, of course, access the wellbeing services within the My Medicash app. The mindfulness meditation sessions and breathing exercises will be particularly important for employees who may be experiencing anxiety.

For those with our full EAP service there is also access to Woebot – a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy based app, which allows policyholders to receive emotional support. Woebot can help employees tackle a variety of issues and can also instantly connect the user to a trained counsellor when additional support is required. Mental health issues are increasing during this self-isolating phase, so this is particularly useful for people who would struggle to pick up the phone to a counsellor.

We have recently introduced some new benefits which are immediately available completely free of charge for all employees on a corporate policy. This includes the launch of SkinVision, our brand-new skin cancer detection app, and our mProve YOURSELF app which contains over 70 guided fitness videos, as well as almost 50 hours of mindfulness courses and meditations.

You can find more details of these new benefits, together with other promotional materials, at www.medicash.org/promotionalsupport. You can also sign-up to our regular wellbeing emails which are full of health and wellbeing tips for your company and staff and to hear about future product updates via this site.

Claims Information

While some health practitioners are not currently open for their usual full range of treatments and service, many are still providing a level of service, where required  Policyholders can also continue to claim for their monthly dental capitation scheme costs, as well as contact lens schemes and new glasses based on their existing prescription.

Several physiotherapists have moved to offering remote consultations and therapy sessions, for the short term. Medicash will process and pay for these in the normal way.

Our customer service teams continue  to operate remotely and are working hard to ensure all our customers receive the high levels of customer service that they have come to expect.

Voluntary Policyholders

Policyholders who pay for their own cover, either through their payroll or direct debit, that are finding payments difficult, are encouraged to contact Medicash to discuss trading down or freezing their policies.

Our Innovations

Medicash is always looking for new ways to innovate and differentiate itself within the market and now is no different. Our latest innovation, SkinVision, was accelerated due to COVID-19 and launched  to the market in early summer.

And Finally

In our 150-year history, Medicash has endured several significant historic events,  but has weathered every storm by adapting to what has been required, remaining dependable in times of crisis. The Medicash ethos remains constant, in that it exists for the benefit of its policyholders.

Finally, I would like to thank my colleagues at Medicash, for their hard work and professionalism. If we can assist in any way, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
