Medicash have part-funded a state-of-the-art bath at Claire House Children’s Hospice.
Bubbles and stories at bath time are a much-loved ritual for most families in the UK. And now, thanks to a donation from cash plan provider Medicash, a relaxing soak can be possible for the children being cared for at Claire House Children’s Hospice.
Claire House cared for 306 children and young people last year – a figure that has risen annually for the last five years. The children have highly complex needs and many have severe disabilities which means they need specialist support and equipment for their daily routine including dressing, sleeping and bathing.
Medicash has part-funded a huge new state-of-the-art Avero height adjustable bath, which features an air spa bubble system and lighting to make bath time a fun and enjoyable experience – especially for those with sensory impairments.
Adjustable floor to ceiling hoists means that the youngsters can be transferred in and out of the bath safely and easily and its huge size – together with a range of internal supports and cushions – means they can move about freely and in total comfort.
Lisa Parr, Nurse at Claire House, said:
“Medicash has made a valuable contribution which has enabled the purchase of the bath to go ahead. Ensuring all the children at Claire House can bathe safely and comfortably whilst having fun at the same time is a small but essential part of our holistic approach to care.”
Some children come and visit Claire House as outpatients specifically to use the bath as they don’t have facilities like this at home.
Medicash chief executive, Sue Weir said: “We were very pleased to have been able to help fund the new Avero bath. All children deserve to enjoy a comfortable and fun bath time, especially those being cared for by the wonderful team at Claire House.”
The bath has been installed in a newly refurbished bathroom which will now benefit hundreds of children a year.
