How a 30-second HealthLens scan changed one Medicash member’s life

When life gets busy, it’s easy to ignore the signs and put our own health at the bottom of the priority list. That’s why we introduced HealthLens in March 2025 – to make it quick and easy for our Medicash members to check in on their health.

Available through the My Medicash app, HealthLens performs a quick, non-invasive facial scan using transdermal optical imaging technology. In just 30 seconds, it provides users with an indicative health score and measures key health indicators including blood pressure, heart rate, cardiovascular disease risk and stroke risk.

For Medicash member, Phil, that quick 30-second scan was the start of an incredible health transformation. We recently sat down with Phil to learn more about his experience and why he’d encourage others to make HealthLens part of their wellbeing routine.

“I’d definitely recommend HealthLens to anyone who wants to understand more about their health. It only takes 30 seconds, and you never know – it could be the prompt you need to get something checked.”

Q: What made you decide to use HealthLens?

HealthLens had recently been introduced as part of my company-paid Medicash health plan, so I thought I’d give it a try. I’d also had a health screening a few months earlier that raised some concerns, so I was interested to see what HealthLens would show.

Q: What was your experience of using HealthLens like?

It was really straightforward and easy to use. I accessed it through the My Medicash app, and the facial scan itself only took around 30 seconds. Once it was complete, I received an indicative health score almost instantly, along with insights into things like my blood pressure, heart rate and respiratory rate. Everything was easy to understand and the app guided me through the process.

Q: What did your HealthLens results tell you?

I received quite a low score and my results highlighted that there were some areas of concern, particularly around my blood pressure. HealthLens recommended that I seek medical advice, so I booked an appointment with my GP.

Q: What advice did your GP give you, and what lifestyle changes did you make?

After some further checks, my GP recommended that I follow a low-carb diet to help manage my blood pressure and Type 2 diabetes. Since then, I’ve lost 5.5 stone and in February 2026 I was told that my blood pressure was back to a healthy level and my Type 2 diabetes had been reversed. I now complete a HealthLens scan every week to keep track of my progress.

Q: How valuable do you think digital tools like HealthLens are as part of your Medicash health cash plan?

Extremely valuable. That first scan gave me the push I needed to take action. I’d definitely recommend Healthlens to anyone who wants to understand more about their health. It only takes 30 seconds, and you never know – it could be the prompt you need to get something checked.

Phil’s experience is a great reminder that taking a proactive approach to your health can make a real difference. A simple check-in can highlight any areas of concern, encourage conversations with those around you, and where needed, prompt you to seek advice from a healthcare professional.

In May 2026, we introduced further enhancements to HealthLens, making it even easier for Medicash members to stay connected with their health. Members can now complete unlimited scans, allowing you to track changes over time. You can now also connect your wearable device to HealthLens, so you can track activity levels, sleep, and wellness trends between scans for a more complete view of your progress.
